when my brother and i were younger we always got some kind of reward for good report cards. sometimes it was going out to dinner, other times it was another kind of treat. one year my brother and i both did well in school so my mom asked us what we wanted. i said kamaboko dip. do you know what my brother said? crab!
so kamaboko is japanese fish cake. it’s pretty cheap and not really anything too exciting.
but i love kamaboko dip with ritz crackers (oh my i would love some now) but really don’t like crab. can you tell the difference between my tastes and my brother’s tastes? geez. though i guess i can’t really talk too much because i did end up going to one of the most expensive schools in the nation. oops. haha. well here’s the recipe for kamaboko dip. i haven’t been able to find kamaboko on the mainland so this is always one of my requests whenever i go home.
first, shred or grate the kamaboko.
add the shredded kamaboko to a medium bowl along with the sour cream, mayo, and green onions.
mix to combine and the dip is done. simple as that. i like to let the dip sit in the fridge for a bit though. then serve it with crackers or carrot sticks.

- 2 blocks of kamaboko
- 1 8 oz container of sour cream
- 1-2 tablespoons of mayonaise
- 2-3 stalks of green onions, chopped
- Grate the kamaboko.
- Mix with sour cream, mayonnaise, and green onion.
- Serve with Ritz crackers, baby carrots, etc.
